Movie Recomendation: Welcome To The DollHouse

Winner of The 1996 Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, this independent film takes you inside the cruel world of twelve year old Dawn Wiener. Life for Dawn is very hard, she is an outcast at school, her parents treat her like crap and she has no friends. Well there is Ralphie but like the charachter on The Simpsons he is not all there.

This is not your average sappy pre-teen movie were everything works out okay in the end. In fact Dawn does not triumph over her hard circumstances as we all would like her to but instead learns to deal with it . If you are not afraid of sad endings and are not afraid of being depressed, I highly recomend this movie.

*On a more personal note, this is my favorite movie of all time. When I first saw this movie I was 12 and I remeber thinking Wow they made my life story into a movie. Just about everything that Dawn went through I have experienced it first hand and I would like to think that not all Dawn Wieners end up being dorks for the rest of their lives. So for those of you who aren't already be nice to the geeky girl with no friends next time you never know who she might turn out to be.

Thank God that is true Ffluer but adolescence can be particularly harsh for certain people.

I was well into adulthood when I saw that movie, but it brought back a certain fear of not belonging that I think everyone goes through during their adolescence. It was a very, very powerful film. I remember wanting to throttle the "perfect" little sister.
