I am Back (Sort of)

Hello Everybody!

I took a loooong hiatus to focus on graduating and applying to grad school which I have now done! Pixie is a grad student now studying Cognitive Psychology. Its not exactly the program I wanted but I did manage to recieve a scholarship and leave Texas! I am only New Mexico but thats still far enough. Oh and did I mention I am engaged now? He is also a student studying Engineering Physics I dont know exactly what that is but it sounds boring and scary at the same time. What's everyone else been up to?

Movie Review: The Science of Sleep

Thanks to two weeks of living off of Caffeine, no sleep and pure adrenalin I have managed to pull my BioChem grade up to a B!

On one of the rare breaks that I gave myself I did manage to catch Michel Gondry's The Science of Sleep. I thought I would love this movie since I am a big fan of Gael Garcia Bernal and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is one of my favorite movies. However this movie was so bad I can’t even start to explain where it went wrong. I guess the premise of the entire movie; a highly imaginative young man who has trouble distinguishing his dreams from reality is kind of goofy to begin with. Nevertheless the movie could have been salvaged if there was some sort of drama or excitement. Instead the movie was one rambling mess of inconsistencies; In one part Gael explains to a co-worker that his father was a French magician and in another scene he talks about living in Mexico with his Mexican father. Plus the fact that there was zero chemistry between Gael and Charlotte Gainsburg only made the movie worse. I am curious has anyone else seen this movie and had the same reaction as I did? My reaction ofcourse being WTF!

I Am Burned Out

I can honestly say I have said and done most of these things. I am really starting to hate school! I have not started the advance Science program yet and my grades are already slipping. To make matters worse I have sat in at a couple of the advance science program classes/meetings and all I can say is YIKES! Talk about dedication these kids (I swear there is a guy who is only 16) live, breath and eat Science. I’ve always considered myself a Science nerd but I am really intimidated.

At this rate I doubt I will even be qualified for the program next semester. I need to get at least a B in my BioChem class to qualify for this program but right now my average is somewhere around a C+. I take some comfort knowing that the class is brutal, it started out with about 100 students and now there are only around 30 left! Who cares if I do not know all the intricate details of the electron transport chain or all ten Glycolysis Catabolic Pathways as long as I get the big picture right? I am really close to saying screw it all so I took a break today from all my classes. Hopefully things will get better within the next couple of weeks. How is everyone else doing?

School Stuff

Hi everyone I am back! Two things are happening simultaneously in my life right now, I am experiencing burnout from my college course load (I am only taking 3 classes) and I have been accepted into an advance Science program which is all very bad timing. The weird thing is I do not remember applying to this program. I got a letter last week from my college congratulating me on my academic success and informing me that I have earned a spot with an advance science program. All I have to do now is increase my college course load even further by taking an additional science class, maintain a 3.5 GPA, and participate in 15-20 hours in on campus research a week. It seems really impossible but the catch is if all goes well with this program I might be eligible for an internship at Harvard!

I told my mom about this program and now she told all my relatives that I have been accepted into Harvard LOL!

Movie Review: Wild At Heart

Gory, trippy and disturbing on so many levels its no wonder this movie is now one of my personal favorites. With an off beat sense of humor, and vividly intense imagery David Lynch brings to life an adult version of The Wizard of Oz. However, between all the sex and violence lies a genuine love story. Sailor Ripley (Nicolas Cage) and Lula Pace (Laura Dern) are two star-crossed lovers on the run from a variety of colorful characters hired by Lula’s mom to kill Sailor.

I made the mistake of watching it while my older (and uptight) sister was in the room with me. She ended up calling me a sick puppy and ran out of the room with her eyes closed and her hands over her ears. She did not even finish watching the first 5 minutes of the film. Although I feel obligated to warn anyone who has yet to see this film about all the brutality, I do feel if you give it a chance it might just grow on you. Or maybe it only grows on demented people with an innate ability to find the humor/love amidst all the shockingly horrific violence.

P.S. I was forced to switch to beta, the damn thing would not let me sign in to the old blogger unless I upgraded. How unfair!

A Week From Hell

I have had the week from hell.

1. My grandma suffered a stroke and is in critical condition.
2. I missed a day of class to visit my grandma in the hospital and as it turns out the next day of class I had a major exam that I was unaware of and forgot to study for so I ended up getting a D-.
3. I ran into an old flame of mine and it was painful, awkward and depressing. I thought he was the love of my life, it turns out he is not. He is married to someone else now.
4. I got a flat on my way home from work and I chipped three nails putting on the stupid spare.
5. And to top it off I am suffering from PMS! I am going out of my mind any words of encouragement are welcome.

Now that Lindsay Lohan is officially in rehab, I’ve been thinking about what other celebrities need to seek professional help. So here is my list of the top five celebrities in no particular order who need to enter rehab as soon as possible.

1. Britney Spears- We all know she has perfected the southern trashy look but maybe she is not completely in a sober state of mind when she goes out looking so tacky. Plus having two babies under two years of age and a cheating husband who you have to pay alimony to is bound to make any woman seek comfort in illegal drugs or alcohol.
2. Tara Reid- I am surprised she still has a liver. It seems that she love booze and partying above everything else even her career. I think her health is in serious jeopardy.

Doing Good Deeds Pays

I started school again this week and the classes are real grueling. So today after my last class I was just eager to get home so I could relax. Anyways as I was packing up my stuff getting ready to leave I noticed a young guy who sat a few rows away from me asking the people around him if they would mind sharing their notes with him because he was a little hard of hearing and his notes were not that good. To my surprise everyone he asked said no and I really felt bad for the guy so I walked up to him, introduced myself and explained that I would be willing to share my notes with him.

“That’s great” he said.
“But you’ll need to go to this room and fill out a few forms first.”

I was kind of perplexed and a little annoyed that I would have to go through all that trouble just to share my notes with him but I reluctantly agreed to go. When I got to the room there was a huge line and my mood quickly soured but I waited patiently for like 20 minutes until I got to the front of the line. As I was explaining my situation to the secretary, she casually said,

“Did he tell you that you will be getting paid for this?”
“I am getting paid to share my notes?”
“Yes but we ran out of forms so you are going to have to come back tomorrow.”

So waiting in line was not a total waste of my time but now all I am wondering is why he did not mention anything about getting paid to the other people he was asking?
