Book Review: Twilight by Stephenie Meyer

As always I managed to gain a few pounds over the holidays. So this year I decided to use some of my Christmas money to buy a good, long book to read while exercising on the treadmill. Yes I know listening to music would be a more plausible option to make the time on the treadmill go by faster but I got bored of all of the music on my IPod and I am too lazy to search for new music.

Now when searching for a book I normally would go straight for the horror section but this time I decided to try something different. I searched for a book in the teen romance section (yes I know I am still a teen at heart) and to my surprise I found one that caught my eye. At over 500 pages this book was more than long enough to keep me entertained for a few days and the cover stated that it was a New York Times best seller. Sold! I bought the book right on the spot.

Ironically only when I got home and read some more comments on the books jacket did I realize it was a horror-romance novel. New York Times called it “Deeply seductive and extraordinarily suspenseful a love story with a bite.” It figures the only time I am not searching for a horror book I managed to buy one anyways. Intrigued I decided to read the first chapter to see if it was really as good as it was claiming to be.

The first chapter was not bad but hardly a page turner. Bella a young girl moves from Phoenix into a small Washington town called Forks. She has to begin her Junior year of high school at a new school were people treat her like an oddity. The only good thing about the school is a good-looking, rebellious boy named Edward who she becomes instantly attracted to. Although people warn her to stay away from him she becomes dangerously drawn to him. Only when she is head over heels in love with him does she find out he is a vampire looking for his next meal.

I really enjoyed this book so much I finished reading it within the first two days. It is not as good as Ann Rice but it is just as entertaining. For those of you who don’t like reading horror novels I heard it is going to be made into a movie soon but since MTV bought the rights to it I doubt it will be any good.

I admire that you can read an actual book on the treadmill - I cheat and listen to audible books on my iPod!

Everyone has already suggested what I was going to say. But I can say that I love a good vampire or werewolf story.

i always read on the treadmill and listen to my iPod at the same time, but you know what really rocks? reading/iPod on the elliptical. less jiggle and impact, meaning easier on the eyeballs and joints.

as for vampire teen romance novels turned into films produced by MTV, um, i'll pass.

Sounds like a great read. I guess you have a secret horror genre magnet that you're not aware of.

What surprises me is that you finished the 500 page book in 2 days. I am impressed. Kudos on your mad reading skills. I mean it would probably take me 10 days, at least, to finish such a book.

And yeah, I agree, with MTV in charge of a movie adaptation it's most probably going to suck.

So many good suggestions I wish I would have made this an IPod post instead of a book review.

V sometimes reading can be a chore but when I find something I enjoy I like to devour it right away. Now I am only praying MTV won't make it into a movie so that I wont be so bitterly dissapointed when it bombs.

I will wait for the movie! I am to lazy!
As for reading while working out, I would have no focus.
I need some thumpin' beats to get me goin.
I may just have to post my Gym playlist for the month of January on my blog...

I agree with you Ffluer. I enjoy reading Ann Rice's older work as compared to her newer novels.
