Movie Recomendation: Welcome To The DollHouse
Winner of The 1996 Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, this independent film takes you inside the cruel world of twelve year old Dawn Wiener. Life for Dawn is very hard, she is an outcast at school, her parents treat her like crap and she has no friends. Well there is Ralphie but like the charachter on The Simpsons he is not all there.
This is not your average sappy pre-teen movie were everything works out okay in the end. In fact Dawn does not triumph over her hard circumstances as we all would like her to but instead learns to deal with it . If you are not afraid of sad endings and are not afraid of being depressed, I highly recomend this movie.
*On a more personal note, this is my favorite movie of all time. When I first saw this movie I was 12 and I remeber thinking Wow they made my life story into a movie. Just about everything that Dawn went through I have experienced it first hand and I would like to think that not all Dawn Wieners end up being dorks for the rest of their lives. So for those of you who aren't already be nice to the geeky girl with no friends next time you never know who she might turn out to be.

Star Jones is a Hippo
I was browsing through some magazines yesterday and one of them featured an article on Star Jones with a picture similar to this one. My two year old nephew who is obsessed with pointing out animals sees the picture of Star Jones and looks at me with a quizzical look on his face before finally pointing at Star
But this does not sit well with him and he keeps on studying the picture of Star until finally gasping with clarity "Oh Monster." he says. I burst out laughing as he walks away content that he has classified the beast that is Star Jones."Hippo" he asks looking really confused.
"No, its just one hell of an ugly lady" I tell him.

Movie Recomendation: Swing Kids
This is one of my all time favorite movies. It tells the story of 1930's Nazi Germany and a group of Swing Kids who rebel against the conformity of the wide spread Hitler Youth movement. The Swing Kids are basically a group of cool cats who are obsessed with American movies, British fashion and Swing music. Besides having a good plot this movie also shows off an array of fantastically choreographed dances.
Henry Rollins: Hot or Not?
My new celebrity crush is Henry Rollins. I caught his comedy special on the Independent Film Channel a few days ago and I really enjoyed it. I can't really say his jokes were funny (I think his timing was a little off) but he was a really good story-teller. He was very witty, intelligent and intense. He also revealed that he as Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (DUH) and he is afraid to have any time off because he thinks he might be having a mid-life crisis soon. I find his mix of angry-sentimentality so attractive. What do you guys think is he hot or not?

Just Friends
So my little brother rented some movies a few days ago (he is only 14 so his taste in movies is pretty bad). Anyways when he said
"Gia this is by far one of the funniest movies I have ever seen."I thought you are only 14 what do you know but I gave in. I sat down and watched it with some of my friends yesterday and I was pleasently surprised. I laughed so hard my stomach still hurts. If you guys liked The Fourty Year Old Virgin you will love this movie.

WTF Lisa
I know I should be concentrating on my grades but I managed to catch the last episode of Lisa Loeb's show and I was shocked at the outcome. I don't want to ruin it for the people who have not seen it yet but it gave me a lot of perspective on why this cute and talanted woman is still single. What do you guys think?

School
My grades are slipping again and I procrastinated doing actual homework during Sprink Break which was very stupid because I am not a very good situation right now. I have one week to finish a major research project and to finish reading that darn Pride & Predjudice book I began during the first week of school. So for the sake of my grades I am taking yet another hiatus from my blog to concentrate on my school work.

Is Lisa Marie Pregnant?
Sources are claiming that Lisa-Marie Presley is pregnant with her third child. She married Michael Lockwood back in January but rumors are speculating that the main reason why Lisa and Michael married so quickly was because Lisa found out she was pregnant. I wish Lisa the best and congratulate her for waiting to have a baby with Michael Lockwood and not Michael Jackson.

WTF Happened to Alec Baldwin?
Before & After
When Ffleur first asked this question in the Tara post I began to wonder why Alec Baldwin had aged so fast and so bad. I had heard rumors that he was a raging alcholic and that he was very abusive toward Kim Basinger when they were married. So it could be just plain old karma getting back at him but who knows. One thing is for sure he does not look half as hot as he did when he was a little bit younger.

The Sopranos
This Sunday marks the new season of The Sopranos. I have only begun watching the show since last season but I was instantly hooked. Every episode is filled with intricate story lines, complicated characters and of course a good dose of sex and violence. Now The Sopranos are not for everyone but I think fans of The Sopranos really appreciate the gritty and intense drama this show brings every season. I don't know about you guys but on Sunday night I am going to unplug my phone and glue myself in front of the T.V. so I can watch the begining of the new season in peace.

Insights
N.V. has inspired me to open up a little bit more about my family life so here goes.
I was out of town this weekend visiting my dad. He is a recovering drug addict and has been in and out of our life for years. For the most part my mother thought it best to have as little contact with him as possible so she would do things like change the phone number everytime he found out what our current phone number was, tell people that knew my dad that he was not welcome in our home and one time when he showed up for a surprise visit we ended up moving out of our house.
Now I know my dad had problems and he wasn't the best role-model but he was our dad and he was a descent father. I have so many good memories of my dad that I began to get anger towards my mom for doing this. I was around 16 when I confronted her and demanded that she give me an adress or phone number where I could reach my dad at. She was reluctant but in the end she gave me a phone number.
I called and spoke to my dad's girlfriend and she told me that he was in rehab. I was really bummed out but she told me to call back in a week. I did but the phone number was no longer in service by then. And that was that.
Fast foward six years later (one month ago) I recieved a wierd phone call at home. It was my dad and ofcourse I was extatic to talk to him (I have always been a daddy's girl). Anyway he informed me that he has been clean and sober for over a year now and that he wanted me, my sister and younger brother to come visit him.
Needless to say my mother was not too thrilled about it, we even got in a big fight because she did not even want to let my younger brother go but eventually she caved in. However my older sister who was planning on going suddenly changed her mind at the last minute. I suspect it was my mother but I have no evidence.
All in all it was a great trip. My dad is getting his life back in order and things were so peaceful and serene all that weekend that I dreaded going home. I suspected a major fight with my mother or sister once I arrived and I was right. You see my mother and sister are alike. They are very passive-agressive and they won't tell me the real reason why they are mad. They will just blow up for any stupid reason and stay mad a whole day or even week.
Right now my mom is mad at me because I did not answer the phone when she called but I suspect she is really mad because of my dad. I even told her to grow up and let all her resentment towards my dad go but that just made things a lot worse. She'll get over it in about a week or so. Oh well at least I still have my dad.
P.S. I choose Van Gough's Starry Night because it is very peaceful painting and peace is what I am craving right now.

Michelle Williams
Michelle has really grown on me lately. I never really saw anything spectacular about her. She wasn't a brilliant actress or even that pretty. She was sort of on the plain side but she has really blossomed latly. She has proven that she can act and she has bagged herself a hottie. And just think she used to look like this !
Crab Nebula
This explosion was actually seen on Earth in the year 1054 A.D.
At the center of the picture is a rapidly spinning star which is emitting radiation 30times a second! The jet-like material is actually high-energy particles which are being blasted away from the star. I love this picture and the colors are truly brilliant.
